24 Jan Trade Mark Owners Beware: Even APPLE Can Lose its Bite
Recently, 2 Italian brothers applied for the trade mark “STEVE JOBS” in a stylised logo form in Italy. Apple opposed registration of that trade mark, but eventually lost the opposition. This is a timely reminder that trade mark owners should be aware that they may lose protection of their trade mark overseas if they do not seek to protect that mark outside of their “home” country. This is particularly relevant if the brand owner intends to expand to overseas markets, which will be blocked by the ownership of the trade mark by another company.
